Summary/Abstract: This article presents basic guidelines that may be a starting point in the Christian formation of adults. These guidelines are formulated based on experience and theoretical knowledge of the author, who has been working in the Prague Archdiocese in the area of adult pastoral care for a long time. The pastoral practice of the Church in the Czech Republic is complex. The changes taking place in this society are of a multidirectional transformation of religiosity under the influence of strong trends of secularism. In addition, there are many prejudices and stereotypes towards the Church. For this reason, the methodological work of the Church to overcome stereotypes and prejudices is the logical and most important point of guidance. The pastoral practice of the Church demands that attention be paid to ad intra formation, i.e. ongoing formation of adult Christians, especially those involved in the process of adult catechesis, because true and fruitful evangelisation only makes sense if the Church itself is first evangelised and renewed. Evangelisation in a broad sense can be understood as the whole activity of the Church, which is why the third point discussed is formation ad extra.
