Understanding children’s sexuality and sexual education by mothers and preschool teachers

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns the meanings attributed to sexuality and sexual education pf preschool-age children by mothers and teachers. The controversies that have emerged in recent years in Polish society, which revolve around denying the existence pf children’s sexuality, indicate a very low social awareness regarding the existence pf sexual sphere in a child’s development and the progression of its individual phases. The article presents definitions of sexuality, its functions and the influence of the course of sexual development in early childhood on subsequent stages of human development. It outlines the methodological assumptions and analyses the results of research conducted by the author among mothers of preschool-age children and preschool teachers.
