Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present Namibian and German discourses on the reparations for the genocide of the Herero and Nama peoples. Guided by the social- -constructivist epistemology, the authors sought to present the German government’s and Namibians’ understandings and positions on the issue of reparations instead of the complex explanation of this phenomenon. The authors conclude that while the Namibian government does not want to allow the Herero to negotiate unilaterally with Germany (this position is supported by the German government), the German government has admittedly stated that the crime committed during the Second Reich would have been genocide (“by today’s standards”) but simultaneously it does not intend to take any financial responsibility for the first genocide of the 20th century.
