Summary/Abstract: For decades, economic interdependence has been seen as positive and has been closely bound to the advance of globalization and open markets. In the last years, however, this liberal narrative has been overturned by intentional, complex and advanced misuse of the interdependence. There has been no war, but the conflicts have intensified without using force.Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has brought tremendous consequences for the weaponization of interdependence. Russia and the West have exchanged economic blows that would have been unimaginable before. Although a number of factors surprisingly mitigated their sudden impact, in the long term, they have laid fertile ground for further deconcentration of strategic dependencies between the leading global actors.
