Summary/Abstract: Both to the Russian and Ottoman Еmpires the Black Sea is of great importance. From the end of the 17th to the beginning of the 18th century, the Russian Empire was striving for a wide outlet to the Black Sea. In the report emphasis is placed on the Russo-Turkish War (1768 – 1774) and the Crimean War (1853 – 1856). While the Russian Empire became one of the main Black Sea powers, the Ottoman Empire began to lose ground.
