Summary/Abstract: The article examines the question of Bulgaria’s place in the new military-political world order after the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact Organization. The author stresses the national security dilemma arising after the end of the Cold War, while tracing the evolution of the so-called “Bulgarian Atlantic idea” as well as its gradual recognition as a top foreign policy priority during the 1990s.
