Summary/Abstract: Michael Shishman’s die in 1330 marked the beginning of big political crisis. His son John Stephen took the throne thanks to his uncle Stephen Dušan. His rule was associated with increasing Serbian influence, attacks by Byzantium and conflicts within the kingdom. John Stephen reigned less than a year. After him, the throne was taken by Ivan Alexander, who managed to quickly stabilize the state, and his rule was the beginning of the last rise of medieval Bulgaria.
