Summary/Abstract: The political crisis in Bulgaria from 1885-1887 was directly reflected at the Bulgarian Navy. This report examines two aspects of this crisis, that concern the fleet and the personnel policy in the Navy. The crisis has its peaks and moments of control and temporary stabilization of the situation. This publication examines and analyzes in detail the three stages of the crisis: first - after the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia; second - related to the events in August 1886 - the dethronement and abdication of Prince Alexander Battenberg that directly involved the ships and crews of the Flotilla; third - the Russophile riots that broke out on February 19, 1887 in Ruse.Overcoming the crisis was a slow process that had been going on for a decade in training and structuring the Navy. It is related to a change in the attitude of state institutions, which are gradually realizing the importance of the Navy. The creation of personnel trained in Naval affairs and the experience gained allowed the fleet to expand to the Black Sea, and subsequently to deploy the main base of our Navy.
