Summary/Abstract: Th is article seeks to unravel the true identity of Juan Pablo Castel, the central character in Ernesto Sabato’s El túnel. Employing methodologies from Dialogical Self Theory and Literary Hermeneutics, we conduct an intratextual analysis of the various identity positions of the protagonist held by the protagonist. This examination reveals Castel’s internal struggle, fluctuating between the bounds of reason and insanity. This conflict compels him to forge a narrative in which he serves as both narrator and main character. The use of the Personal Position Repertoire, a graphical tool, facilitates visualisation of the protagonist’s trajectory and aids in dissecting the complexities of his discursive voices. Consequently, this analysis aims to provide a definitive answer to the central question of Castel’s true nature.
