Some selected problems of financing public tasks in the field of education

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of financing public tasks in Poland, in the fieldof education. The authors begin their considerations by addressing the subjectof state tasks and the place that educational tasks occupy in them. Subsequently, se-lected aspects of the functioning of the educational system in Poland are discussed,with particular emphasis on the role of local government. The authors’ attentionwas drawn to the mechanisms of education financing, including, in particular,the mixed nature of such a financing model (central and local government). Sub-sequently, the results of the authors’ own research on the financing of educationaltasks in the Piaski municipality in Lublin Voivodeship are presented. They exem-plify certain problems of a general nature, showing, among other things, the needfor a significant financial participation of the municipality in educational tasks,which may lead to the conclusion of insufficient central funding.
