Summary/Abstract: Th is paper presents a preliminary analysis of the sociolinguistic variation in the use of tampoco across five Spanish-speaking cities, based on data from the PRESEEA project. A review of previous grammatical literature has identified four basic uses of tampoco. However, only two of these uses are attested in all surveyed locations. A third use is exclusive to Mexico City, whereas the fourth is not present in our sample. The results indicate that the level of education is the most influential social variable affecting the frequency of tampoco uses, especially in Medellín. In Mexico City, the use of tampoco shows a direct correlation with the variable of sex, whereas age does not yield significant results in any of the examined locations.
