Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue related to the influence of socialization training for girls in childhood on their later tendencies to devalue their own achievements and succumb to the so-called ‘impostor syndrome’. The main aim of the paper was to highlight the relationship between these elements and the limitations posed for the educational, professional, and societal development of women. The author analyzes contemporary studies on the socialization of girls and barriers to women’s professional advancement, juxtaposing them with a secondary analysis of their own qualitative research from a biographical perspective. The source material encompasses research conducted by the author of the article in 2007-2008, aiming to understand changes in social status and how women experience them. The conclusions drawn from the article emphasize the importance of shaping social awareness and reducing the infl uence of the ‘impostor syndrome’ through appropriate approaches to childhood socialization, especially for girls. The author highlights the need for continued research in this area and points out the potential benefi ts of biographical analysis as a tool for understanding the complex relationships between socialization and women’s later life choices.
