Summary/Abstract: The article attempts an initial assessment of the progress my by the Baltic States in implementing the total defense concept. Material and methods: The article uses officially available data made available on governmental websites on the defence topics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The method of analysing the literature related to the defence issues of the Baltic States was also applied. Results: The Baltic States adopted a comprehensive approach to defence. Latvia focused more on educating the public, while Lithuania focused on developing international cooperation. Estonia was the most successful in applying a comprehensive approach to defence. Conclusions: The implementation of the concept of total defence in the various Baltic states took place in different areas of the states’ operations. The Baltic States have had to take steps to improve energy security, border security and cyber security in a short period of time.
