Summary/Abstract: The international symposium "Central-European Masculinities in a Comparative Perspective" brought together leading academic institutions across Central Europe to explore the construction and deconstruction of masculinities within historical and contemporary contexts. The symposium featured interdisciplinary discussions on a wide range of themes, from literary modernity to queer masculinities under state socialism. Key presentations included analyses of 19th-century Czech masculinities, LGBT+ activism, and the portrayal of masculinity in Slovak literature. The event also examined the impact of feminist movements on gender relations in Hungary and the experiences of war invalids in Poland. Panels dedicated to masculinities under state socialism highlighted the diversity of socialist masculinities and the role of military service in shaping masculine identities. The symposium concluded with discussions on contemporary stakes in masculinity studies, emphasizing the need for regional collaboration and specific methodologies that integrate local academic traditions.
