Summary/Abstract: In glottodidactic practice, the need to link language teaching with the introduction of elements of the culture of a given country has been emphasized for many years. Particular attention is paid to acquainting students with the culture of utility, with behaviors in various social contexts, allowing for efficient functioning in everyday life. However, is there a place for high culture in Polish as a foreign language classes? To develop linguistic competences along with literary or musical sensitivity? The article shows examples of didactic activities used during courses organized at the School of Polish Language and Culture of the University of Silesia in Katowice, which familiarize foreigners with Polish national culture and the history of Poland, showing its richness and diversity, being an intellectual challenge and an emotional experience. The authors present practices that open to otherness and become a binder connecting people from different cultures.
