Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this academic article is to find similarities and differences between the teaching and learning of general English vocabulary and the teaching and learning of terminological vocabulary in the context of teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) from the perspective of first-year students of economics (and management) taught in English at the University of National and World Economy – Sofia, Bulgaria, and Business English lecturers at the same higher education institution. The paper concentrates on vocabulary learning strategies, vocabulary teaching and learning approaches, vocabulary acquisition, the most effective ways of teaching terminological vocabulary, and the acquisition of terminological vocabulary translation equivalents. Taking the survey results into consideration, some conclusions can be reached, which, if implemented in practice, could contribute to the improvement of terminological vocabulary teaching and learning in an ESP environment.
