Summary/Abstract: A small group of intellectuals, gathered around Ljubomir Stoja novićand Jaša Prodanović, advocated the introduction of the republican form of government in the Yugoslav state and they founded the Yugoslav Republican Party in Belgrade at beginning of 1920. Given that they needed a material and moral support in a strong monarchy as the Yugoslavia was at that time, they tried to establish connections and cooperation with the republican organizations in the USA; in the first place with one of the largest Yugoslav republican associations leaded by Etbin Kristan and based in Chicago, State of Illinois. Nevertheless, despite the good will of both sides and an initial success in the correspondence among two republican movements, the ties were soon broken, because of the ever more difficult national situation in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and the quarrels among the yugoslav republicans in the USA
