Summary/Abstract: This article is an effort to explain complexity of economic position in which was Bulgaria during the 50s and 60s. Main argument was that all countries of state socialism were in deep economical crisis which triggered reforms. Main issues were decreasing role of a plan, but not eliminating it as main regulatory mechanism, recognizing the importance of law of value (importing market mechanisms into plan economy) and increasing the independence of enterprises within the system. New system was more alike to Yugoslavian one (1952-1960), which Yugoslavia at that time wanted to abandon due to its inefficiency. Main difference from Yugoslavian model was that Plan remained to be obligated and that enterprises were merged into a huge trusts that would solve integration problems within one whole branch of industry or just part of it. Unlike to majority thinking Bulgaria was coping in reformation period as almost any other socialist states with, naturally, hers own specifics. It also ended whole program when it as at the peak due to events that shock Eastern Block in 1968.
