COMPARISON OF DIVORCE RATES IN RIZE AND TRABZON

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to compare the divorce rates of Rize and Trabzon in Turkey Statistical Institute (2022). In order to realize the aim of the research, data on divorce statistics graphs of Rize and Trabzon by years, data on the crude divorce rate, and data on divorces by marriage duration were analyzed. When we compare the divorce rates in Rize and Trabzon by years (2001-2022) from the analysis of the data of the study, we see that they have a similar pattern. At the same time, when we compare the populations of the two provinces, the change in the total number of divorces over the years is similar. Although the crude divorce rate has a similar pattern in Rize and Trabzon, it is seen that Rize is ahead of Trabzon between 2013-2018. This differentiation can be considered normal. Considering that Turkey's 2022 crude divorce rate is 2.13 ‰, both provinces are below Turkey's average. As a result of the study, it is concluded that divorce rates are increasing in Rize and Trabzon in parallel with the average in Turkey. Family is the most important institution that ensures the continuation of the generation and socialization of the individual. To reduce divorce rates, it is necessary to develop social policies that will protect the family.
