Summary/Abstract: Entrances are one of the most important building elements in both urban and rural areas. Entrances, which are one of the elements that form the identity of buildings, are transition elements designed in line with physical, psychological and cultural factors. In addition to being the points that provide physical access to the building, entrances are symbols that reflect the cultural heritage and identity of the region where they are located. In this study, the entrance designs of six houses in Sürmene-Gültepe Village, which is located in the rural area of the Eastern Black Sea region, including original examples reflecting traditional house architecture are evaluated. As a result of a detailed analysis of the entrance structure and doors of the houses, it is seen that the main entrances stand out in terms of location and size compared to other entrances. The presence of garden doors, barn doors and guest room doors varies in the houses. In conclusion, it can be said that climate and topography, as well as social, cultural and economic factors are effective in shaping the entrance spaces of houses. However, it is concluded that the repairs and renovations carried out due to the changing functional conditions today have removed the entrances of the houses from the local characteristics. The entrances of houses in rural areas play an important role in maintaining the architectural character and authenticity of the region and reflecting the environmental/cultural context by preserving it.
