Summary/Abstract: Sustainable development is the ultimate goal of integrating environmental policy into other EU policies, as agreed in the Treaty establishing the European Community. The European Union has developed a strategy to achieve concrete results in key sectors deemed to affect the environment. In its view, sustainable development is a complex and fundamental concept that allows a nation to plan, implement and monitor the progress of society towards achieving long-term objectives.
