Summary/Abstract: The aim of this work is to explain the Thomistic hierarchy of virtues. The question is therefore: How and why, according to Thomas Aquinas, do the three Catholic virtues of love in the sense of caritas, faith and hope have a higher hierarchical rank than the four cardinal virtues of prudence, courage, temperance and justice?
