Summary/Abstract: Reporting on sustainability issues, which is done on a voluntary basis in many countries, has begun to take its place in the legal systems of countries due to increasing stakeholder expectations. In other words, legal regulations are made by countries regarding the reporting of businesses on sustainability issues. One of these legal regulations is the regulation regarding the sustainability principles compliance report made by the Capital Markets Board (CMB) in our country. The "Communiqué on Amendments to the Corporate Governance Communiqué (II-17.1)" prepared by the CMB. The first article of this Communiqué stipulates that businesses subject to corporate governance principles are subject to sustainability principles and that they must include the disclosures within the framework of sustainability principles compliance in their corporate governance principles compliance reports. In addition, the sustainability principles compliance framework and sustainability report format have been published by the CMB. Sustainability Principles Compliance Framework is a guide that includes the principles that companies whose shares are traded on the stock exchange and are subject to corporate governance principles will be based on in reporting their activities and the impacts they create on the environment, social and governance activities in a certain period. Companies must report information regarding their environmental, social and governance activities for 2020 starting from 2021, in accordance with the principles in this guide and the published reporting format. In this study, it is aimed to examine the sustainability principles compliance framework published by the Capital Markets Board of Turkey (CMB), to analyze the relationship between the sustainability principles compliance score calculated for the companies traded in the BIST Manufacturing Sector and publishing a sustainability report, publishing an integrated report, index on which it is traded and market in which it is traded and to investigate whether there is a difference in terms of sustainability principles compliance score between sub-sectors. At the time of this study, it was seen that there was only one study on the sustainability principles compliance report, which is specific to our country and is relatively new in practice since it is required to be published as of 2021. In the relevant study, the sustainability principles compliance report was examined in terms of form and content, and similarities and differences were tried to be revealed. In this study, it is aimed to qualitatively examine the sustainability principles compliance report, analyze the factors affecting the reporting, and analyze whether there are differences in terms of compliance score between sectors. In this respect, this study contributes to the literature. . Content analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used as research methods. In the study, the sustainability principles compliance reports of the companies in the sample for the year 2022 were subjected to content analysis based on the principles included in the sustainability principles compliance report; sustainability principles compliance score was calculated for the companies in the sample using dummy variables; correlation analysis was performed to analyze the relationship between the sustainability principles compliance score and the status of publishing sustainability reports and integrated reports, sectors and markets traded, and one-way anova analysis was performed to analyze whether there is a difference between sustainability principles compliance scores by sub-sectors using SPSS 26 program. As a result of the analysis, it was found that 78 out of 203 companies have a sustainability principles compliance score of 0.50 and above, there is a positive relationship between sustainability principles compliance score and publishing sustainability reports, publishing integrated reports, being traded in the corporate governance index, being traded in the sustainability index, and a negative relationship between being traded in the public offering index and the market, and no difference was found between the sustainability principles compliance score of the sub-sectors. In addition, during the content analysis conducted to calculate the compliance score, it was found that the examined companies only published sustainability principles compliance reports in 2021 and 2022, although they reported in line with global standards in previous years; In some of the reports examined, it was observed that the explanations made regarding the principles that were not complied with were not sufficient. As a result, it is possible to say that the expected benefit from the sustainability principles compliance report can be achieved if the quality of the compliance report prepared in line with the sustainability principles compliance framework brought to the level of global standards is inspected.
