Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to examine the tendencies in developing listening skills in aPolish school. The author, having analysed the provisions of core curriculum dating from1999–2017, concludes that in the 1999–2008 period, communication-oriented tendencieswere noticeable in the process of teaching auditory perception, text-centric ones were observablebetween 2008 and 2017, while since 2017, an axiological orientation, which paradoxicallydepreciates the listening skills, has been prevalent. According to the author, nocoherent model of teaching the reception of spoken text emerges from any of the previous orcurrent core curriculum. She believes that in the future, a functional concept of developingthe skill of listening in the native language should be created in order for this ability to beappreciated in a school setting.
