Summary/Abstract: This study attempts to trace the role of books - traditional and electronic - in the modern information environment. The book as a medium and communication channel in the modern library and information environment and library and information workers as intermediaries/mediators facing the new challenges of the online environment. The librarian‘s role in this communication. Conclusions are made about the importance of books today - traditional and electronic, about the advantages and preferences of the modern reader.
