Summary/Abstract: Alexander Bogoridi is the son of Stefan Bogoridi, a high Ottoman priest. He graduated Law in Berlin, held a number of diplomatic and administrative positions in OttomanTurkey. Elected Governor-General of the Eastern Rumelia region – a province with in the borders of the Ottoman Empire and under the direct political authority of the Sultan, but with a mainly Bulgarian population, Bulgarian are the language, writing, the predominant part of the schools and churches. He remained at this post for 5 years (1879–1884), during which he defended and asserted the autonomy of the region and the interests of the Bulgarian population.
