Summary/Abstract: In the part dedicated to the "diaspora" in Şiria, I will refer to the period when this locality was under the rule of Austria-Hungary, when the inhabitants of these lands felt like strangers in their own country, with an emphasis on the deeds of the high civil servants Sigismund Borlea and Ioan Russu-Sirianu. The second part of the paper will refer to the Syrians in the diaspora, a part that brings to the fore the idea that the periods that I. T. Mera, Ioan Slavici, or Coriolan Petranu spent abroad had a decisive influence on the formation them. The intercultural environment in which these personalities were born or entered exerted a special influence on their development. The non-existent or barely existing "unity in diversity" in the lives of the listed personalities prompts us to reflect not only on the importance and uniqueness of each individual "unity", but also on the ways in which this unity has been maintained or adapted in "diversity".
