Summary/Abstract: Today, organisations are using lean manufacturing techniques to reduce costs and increase efficiency. Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) is one of the key techniques used in lean manufacturing to reduce setup/changeover times. In order to minimise setup times in production processes, this technique is integrated into machines in factories. 5S is a quality management system that keeps workspaces clean, tidy and well-organised to promote high performance. The 5S technique also increases employee motivation by creating a well-organised work environment, which in turn improves business performance. In this study, the current state of a packaging company was analysed and improvements were made using the SMED approach and 5S to increase efficiency by reducing set-up times. The SMED method significantly reduced tool change times on the press and minimised interruptions to the production line. Similarly, 5S helped to make the work environment more organised, clean and ergonomic, thereby improving overall efficiency. As a result of the research, a time saving of 18 minutes was achieved on the press through the implementation of SMED and 5S applications. This has resulted in more efficient production processes, less waste and cost savings.
