Summary/Abstract: This contribution proposes to illustrate the linguistic and ethnic variety reflected in the novels of two contemporary authors, Andrea Camilleri and Giulio Angioni, distinguished representatives of two rich island cultures, Sicily and Sardinia. These are spatial locations traditionally destined to be crossroads, meeting points of languages, peoples and cultures. This mark is also preserved at various levels in the writing of the two authors, so that our choice focuses, on the one hand, on a Camilleri noir novel from Montalbano series in which the well-known multilingualism and exceptional linguistic invention of the Sicilian writer is reflected, and, on the other, on Angioni’s latest novel, defined as a community novel, which reflects a plurality of voices, ergo of characters from various backgrounds who, under the threat of war and destruction, try to save themselves and rebuild their lives in a former leper colony.
