Depressive States of Young Mothers and Conceptualisations of Motherhood

Summary/Abstract: The article analyses selected posts pub-lished by young mothers in two private Facebookgroups entitled Noworodki, niemowlaki, dzieci – wy-miana doświadczeń (Newborns, toddlers, children –sharing experiences) and Karmienie piersią i międzykarmieniami (Breastfeeding and between feedings).The issue influencing the analysis is conceptualisa-tion which is one of the basic concepts in cognitivelinguistics. The result of linguistic reflection is theobservation of ways for conceptualising motherhoodthat are associated with psychophysical problemsand depressive states of women in the perinatal pe-riod. Due to the thematic and temporal scope of thematerial, 45 entries published in 2022 and 2023 con-cerning the most difficult experiences were described.The collected examples were assigned to one of sixdistinguished conceptualisations, each related to thepoor psychophysical condition of mothers.
