Summary/Abstract: The article identified external (global, international) and internal (national, regional, local) determinants of rural development in Poland in the perspective of the coming years and decades. These include political, economic, social and technological conditions. The key external factors are the instability of agri-food markets, climate change and robotisation, and internal factors are depopulation and deagrarianisation. The status of planning work in rural communes is also presented. On this basis, conclusions were formulated for regional and local planning. Among other things, it is postulated that there is an urgent need for a plan for villages related to settlement-environmental restructuring.
