Summary/Abstract: The early years of the Republic can be considered as a laboratory of Turkish educational history. To comprehend the educational heritage transferred from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, to observe the initial effects of the Unification of Education Law, to summarise the state of education in pre-Alphabet Reform Turkey, and to conduct comparative analyses with subsequent years, educational statistics from the early Republican period must be utilised as primary resources. The Statistical Yearbooks published by the Ministry of National Education, which contain detailed educational statistics, meet this need. It is clear that cliometric studies will render the data in the statistics meaningful. Therefore, there is a necessity to employ quantitative methods particularly in interpreting the data from the 1925-1926 Statistical Yearbooks. This study examines the primary schools within the Trabzon Educational District, which was one of Turkey's 13 educational regions in 1926, comprising the provinces of Artvin, Ordu, Rize, Şebinkarahisar, Trabzon, Gümüşhane, and Giresun, and their associated districts. The primary schools in the region have been evaluated in detail; comparative analyses have been made between the provinces themselves, with other educational administrations, and with Turkey as a whole. Although the study is limited to the year 1926, the Trabzon region, and primary education, it also provides information about other educational institutions in the region. In other words, the study includes a snapshot of the Trabzon Educational Administration in 1926 and carries out comparisons, encompassing high schools, secondary schools, teacher training schools, Imam and Hatip schools, village and urban boarding schools, private schools, and kindergartens.
