Summary/Abstract: The image of the Young Girl from Adam Mickiewicz’s drama Dziady, part II (1820– 1822), in the scene of the Wizard and the Girl, is discussed in relation to that of the woman represented in the etching Volaverunt (Capricho 61) by Francisco Goya (1799). Both of them are fluttering suspended in mid-air, punished for refusing love. The possible interpretations of the image of the Girl in Mickiewicz’s drama are reviewed and an attempt to decontextualize it is made in order to free it from the traditional burden of its textual environment. In this way, some of its hitherto unmentioned aspects come to light.
