Parodic actualization of a precedent text from Russian political discourse

Summary/Abstract: The objective of this study is to determine the functions of the actualizations of the political precedent text in parodic works and to identify the structural and semantic transformationsrelated to them. The research was conducted in the form of a case study and focuses on parodic actualizations of the phrase денег нет, но вы держитесь, originating from a speech of DmitryMedvedev. The research material consists of Russian-language parody films published on YouTube since 2015. The main research method is intertextual analysis, based on the methodologyof discourse analysis. Taking into consideration the results obtained, it can be assumed that the most important function of the actualizations of the abovementioned precedent is unmasking (primarily exposing the indifference of the authorities to the problems of society). In parodies, precedent texts of political discourse are used as a means of constructing political criticism in the words of the politicians themselves.
