Summary/Abstract: In the following article we shall attempt to study the concept of priesthood in biblical-thological perspective and focus on the last book of our Canon, the book of Revelation. This first part focuses on the explicit priestly texts (Rev 1,6; 5,10 and 20,6). Analysis and comparation of these texts brings up several important conclusions. The priesthood in Revelation is always closely conected to (active) kingship (rather than ambivalent kingdom). There is wide disscusion on the eschatological character of these concepts. To stay faithful to the apocalyptic genre and narrative character of Rev we need to take into account the overall theological and practical purpose of this writing. Only than we can grasp the inaugurated character of the priesthood with strongly soteriological and christological aspects which take us back to the unique historical moment of Christ´s priestly sacrifice.
