Summary/Abstract: This study is a subjective review of the use of a specific drone in field archaeology, with general observations regarding to use and safety. The advent of drones has ushered in a New Age of Aerial Photography in archaeological recording. Before their appearance in the skies above excavations, photographic towers, or extendable rods with shakily attached cameras were used, or a fly-by was arranged with a local pilot who would be kind enough to swoop down and overfly the excavation, clicking away diligently. Sometimes rooftop access to a nearby building was feasible, in order to acquire an oblique semi-aerial view of the site. Not only do the drones now allow totally vertical photography, but they permit you to preview the results in real time.
