Summary/Abstract: French (Francophone) criticism first institutionalized and then co-created the construct of “national schools”, “national arts”. How the notion of the “Czech school” was codified and destabilized from the position of this powerful medium in the long nineteenth century, and even a little later in changing socio-historical, ideological and specifically political situations and constellations, is the subject of this study, illustrated by a number of examples.
