Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is firstly, to examine the syntactic patterns of use of simple, complex and compound sentences in written learner corpora at different French and English language acquisition levels in texts produced by the secondary school test-takers in Latvia, and secondly, to examine the potential of learner corpora in test level validation. The main findings are that the English and French corpora display similar syntactic patterns, thereby providing evidence of the English and French language test level comparability.
