Summary/Abstract: Festivals as a means for organising artistic life are extremely attractive to the neo-liberal state and its society. This cultural alibi creates the illusion that art is in the spotlight. Meanwhile, a quite large group of professionals has come into being whose duties include frequenting festivals as experts and judges. The festival also perfectly suits the needs of the ruling class in relation to the artistic community. Its event-driven nature can attract the attention of the media to a greater extent than a systematic repertoire, and, therefore, its promotional potential is immeasurably greater. The author ends with a reflection on the future of the festival.
