Summary/Abstract: Best known for his Maigret series, Georges Simenon is generally considered a detective fiction author. The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between his exotic novels and detective genre. In order to do so, we refer to the definition of detective fiction proposed by Marc Lits. Through the analysis of nine exotic novels of Simenon, published between 1999 and 2012, in collections dedicated to the detective genre, we show that, in spite of the presence of some elements of detective stories, these works cannot be classified as detective fiction.
