Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of a research aimed at examining the relationship between socio-demographic variables (gender, length of service and employment in primary or secondary school), the emotional competence of teachers and the quality of the classroom climate. This relationship was analyzed based on the teachers’ self-assessment of their own emotional competencies and the quality of the classroom climate they create. The research was conducted on a sample of 302 teachers employed in primary and secondary schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Data collection was carried out online using the Emotional Competence Questionnaire (UEK-45), the Classroom Climate Questionnaire, and the Socio-demographic Questionnaire. The research found that the socio-demographic variable of teachers' length of service predicts, in a statistically significant manner, all dimensions of the emotional competence of teachers. The socio-demographic variable of gender has proven to be a statistically significant predictor of the ability to understand and perceive emotions in such a way that teachers achieve higher values on this subscale of emotional competence. Also, multiple regression analysis found that gender is a statistically significant predictor of creating a classroom climate. The conducted research indicates the importance of the emotional competence of teachers for the creation of a positive classroom climate.
