Summary/Abstract: The aspiration to belong, to be liked and fit into a group, especially in youth, is a predictable, well-known characteristic of this age. The current era is more challenging due to the huge number of potential influences on young people, which are rapidly changing, leading to the collapse of existing criteria, rules, beliefs, norms and value systems. The paper presents the results of research with young people where the relationships of self-esteem and self-monitoring were considered. Self-esteem refers to how we value our self-concept and is an important protective factor throughout life. Self-monitoring refers to the desired presentation of oneself, taking into account the signs and demands coming from the outside world and the goals we want to achieve. The discussion is in the context of evident changes, pressures and expectations in society as a whole, where it is often impossible to select data, set priorities, plan actions, build and maintain a positive self-image, which is important in the overall development of an individual.
