Summary/Abstract: This study aims to examine the relationship between childhood traumas and depression symptoms and self-compassion among university students. It is a quantitative study using the correlational survey model. The population of the study consists of 387 individuals aged 18 and over living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and this sample was selected using convenience sampling method. Socio-demographic Information Form, Self-Compassion Scale, Childhood Traumas Scale and Beck Depression Inventory were used as data collection tools. The findings show that there is a positive and significant relationship between the levels of childhood traumas and depression symptoms. When the sub-dimensions were analyzed, positive and significant relationships were also found between the levels of emotional and physical abuse and neglect and depression symptoms. As the levels of childhood traumas increased, the severity of depression symptoms also increased. In addition, a negative and significant relationship was found between the levels of childhood traumas and self-compassion levels; as the levels of trauma increase, self-compassion levels decrease. In the light of these findings, clinicians should be aware that childhood traumas may increase the risk of depression and should address this issue with their patients. Early intervention and support are vital for traumatized children. In addition to treating depression, clinicians should develop treatment plans to increase their patients' levels of self-compassion. A holistic approach will support patients' emotional well-being and help them discover their inner resources.
