Summary/Abstract: Czech translation of O. J. Herstein’s Justifying Subversion: Why Nussbaum Got (the Better Interpretation of) Butler Wrong. The paper critiques Martha Nussbaum's interpretation of Judith Butler's work, particularly concerning the moral justification for subversive political actions. Nussbaum argues that Butler's deconstructivist approach lacks a firm moral foundation, leading to the conclusion that Butler’s philosophy collaborates with immoral acts. However, the author disputes this claim by demonstrating that Butler’s framework is rooted in subversive acts that inherently challenge oppressive norms within established social structures. Butler’s notion of performativity and her rejection of fixed identities allows for a more nuanced understanding of subversion, one that doesn’t require traditional moral justification but rather engages in a continual reinterpretation of norms. The essay explores how Nussbaum misinterprets the core of Butler’s poststructuralist position and fails to see the critical potential embedded within Butler’s subversive politics.
