Ice Navigation Challenges

Summary/Abstract: Ice should be regarded as a considerable obstacle to any vessel and great care must be exercised when navigating in ice. The latent power and strength of ice in all its forms should be always respected. The ship and her equipment are not always designed and capable to face these conditions. The goal is to identify the precautions that can be taken entering ice waters and the master to navigate the vessel having in mind certain rules and evaluating all the risks. All these measures define the safe completion of the intended voyage.
