Summary/Abstract: The Parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10: 30-35provides the reader with a fundamental paradigm ofundiscriminating love of neighbour rooted in the HebrewScripture itself (Dt 6: 5 and Lev 19: 18b). Its previous andensuing contexts (10: 21-24, Jesus rejoicing over his disciples;10: 38-42, Martha and Mary; 11: 1-4, the Lord’s Prayer),together with its immediate context (10: 25-29, the question bythe lawyer about inheriting eternal life; 10: 36-37, theapplication of the parable by Jesus) open a further windowinto the deeper message of the parable, namely its cultic slant.
