Summary/Abstract: Covering all the critical aspects of an ancient bio(birth; upbringing; genealogy; ministry and teaching; deathand resurrection), the Lukan special material (“L”) makes asignificant contribution to the portrait of Jesus as depicted bythe Evangelist Luke. In every major section of Jesus’biography, the insertion of “L” material-sources createsunique contours and emphases. Among others, Jesus isportrayed as the fulfilment and culmination of God’s plan ofsalvation, as revealed in the OT. Moreover, He is the Son ofthe OT God, who comes to save in Person – the infancynarratives reveal. As “the son of God” and “the son of Adam”,Jesus is uniquely qualified to assume the priestly Messianicrole of representative and mediator between God andhumankind. He is also a remarkable miracle worker, yet somuch more. His miracles comfort the afflicted; His teachingsafflict the comfortable, as critical aspects of traditional Jewish worldview are being challenged by Jesus’ parables. In the faceof death, Jesus is the absolute martyr-hero, rising above theremarkable heroes of the Jewish and Greco-Roman literature. In His resurrection, Jesus is vindicated by God as the Messiahof Israel and the Saviour of the world. In His ascension, Jesusis worshiped by His followers as the exalted Lord of all.
