Summary/Abstract: According to recently found documentary information from the Diplomatic Archive of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs the article describes the history of the French consulate in Varna . the first French consulate in Bulgaria, which existed in the years 1802-1814. During those 12 years 4 consuls changed, every one of them with a faith of his own. The consulate probably could not hold positions in Varna and even if it could it was for a short period of time. During the rest of its existence the consuls remained in Constantinople, after all the consul.s position survived despite the problems, military and diplomatic confrontations during the vivid Napoleonic epoch The French Consulate in Varna from the beginning of the XIX-th century is a consequence of the Napoleon.s Black Sea policy, which accompanies its history and the faith of the first consuls. The obstacles for the erection of a French residence in Varna are usual for the region, which are hard consequences from the rebellions in Kardgali, the disregard of the Sublime Porte and Russia.s reaction against the French interference in the Black Sea region. French archive documents about the Varna consulate give more information about these problems.
