Summary/Abstract: The parliamentary elections were held in November 1946. The Bulgarian Agrarian National Union . Nikola Petkov (BANU . NP) took an important part supporting other opposition parties. The basic principles of the BANU . NP were parliamentary democracy, freedom and private property. The agrarian organization wanted to preserve these principles in the Bulgarian society after the Second World War. The Bulgarian Workers. party (communists) aimed to apply the Soviet pattern in Bulgaria. The BANU . NP was the biggest communist adversary and because of this the Government oppressed them. The article presents the activity of the agrarian leaders, local organizations followers in the pre-electoral period. It is based on materials from the national and local archives, historical researches and newspapers.
