Summary/Abstract: The subject of the research presented in this article is the narrative as a sociological category, and the aim of this work is to provide a theoretical reflection on the possibility of approaching narratives in a way different from the deontologizing postmodern perspective, which would allow for assessing the truth status of narratives present in social life. As a method, it is proposed to consider narratives in the light of critical realism. Though this theory provides justification and criteria for testing references to reality, there is also a conclusion related to the attitude of the researcher who should avoid a destructive approach to historically produced, cultural and sense-creating narratives and in these situations rather choose a phenomenological perspective.
